Several decades with HIGH QUALITY SIGN SOLUTIONS
The idea of a sign company that is the customer’s extended arm to the sign manufacturers was born at the beginning of the 1990s. That vision became a reality when Finn Sievert started EV Consult and SignZ in 1992. Which a few years later became Sign Consult. We continue to build on that vision today after many years of experience in the sign industry. But Finn didn’t start from scratch either in 1992. Before starting Sign Consult, Finn had worked for many years in the sign industry. In 1992, he then got the opportunity to start a new company. However, the idea of Sign Consult started a few years before.
The First customers
In the late 1980s, Finn Sievert sold his sign factory to a Norwegian company. Finn became assigned as a consultant in this company. In that capacity, he was sent to Ireland. Here the petrol company BP entered into a partnership with Statoil, and many gas stations changed their name to Statoil. So, new signs had to be made for the stations. In Ireland, Finn was offered a job for a year. That way he got to know Statoil well. He made such good contacts that he became an intermediary between the sign manufacturers and the company. This meant that he, as the company’s man, was responsible for finding the best sign manufacturers and the best prices. As Finn had good contacts and extensive knowledge within the sign industry, it was of great benefit to Statoil. So when Finn had to return home, Statoil had become so fond of him that they wanted to keep him as a consultant on their signs in Denmark. Statoil became Sign Consult’s first customer.
Around this time, Finn was also contacted by K.W. Bruun, who was an importer of Peugeot cars in Denmark. They had heard about Finn and what he could do. When Peugeot should have new signs in Denmark, they wanted Finn to help with this project. The person responsible for signs at K.W. Bruun traveled with Finn to their sign manufacturer in France to be introduced to the task. Peugeot became Sign Consult’s first customer in the automotive industry.
Nordic cooperation
That’s how Sign Consult in Denmark got off to a good start. But it didn’t stop there. After a short time Finn got hold of some contacts in Norway, and here Sign Consult Norway started, which could service Sign Consult’s customers in Norway. After that, Sign Consult Sweden was also added, and a collaboration was entered into with a company in Finland as well. In this way, the Sign Consult group could service customers in most of the Nordic region.
Over the years, Sign Consult gained more car brands as customers and the company grew. Today, we mostly work with car dealers and petrol stations, but we also work with grocery chains, smaller companies and shops. That is why Sign Consult today has contact with the most important sign manufacturers in most of the world.
Generation change
In 2004, Finn’s son Christian Østerlund bought into Sign Consult. Christian had worked in various areas both as a fitter and in the office in the years leading up to 2004 and he had a good knowledge of the company. After that, Christian and Finn ran the company together until Finn chose to retire, and Christian took over Sign Consult completely in 2011.
Sign Consult has been located in various locations in Roskilde over the years. But in May 2015 it was decided to move to Køge to a place where there was space for both an office and a warehouse in the size that was needed at this time.
The philosophy is the same
When Sign Consult saw the light of day in the early 1990s, it was based on Finn’s work as an intermediary and the customer’s extended arm under Statoil. That was what the philosophy behind Sign Consult was and is today. Sign Consult was not manufacturing signs but we should help customers get the best deals with the manufacturers. It was and is Sign Consult’s job to be the customers’ technical consultant and be responsible for the installation, service and maintenance of signs. This meant and still means that the customer can safely entrust the installation, assembly and design of new signs and maintenance of old signs to Sign Consult. We make sure that the signs are as they should be within the framework that has been set by the client and the authorities. We provide quality control of the signs from the manufacturers and help for the customers, as Sign Consult has the expertise and contacts in the world of signs. With our many years of experience in the sign industry, we have tried a bit of everything.
